Targeting Restaurants and Pubs in Leicester
Do you own or run a restaurant or pub in Leicester / Leicestershire? Then you could be receiving one of the new wine bottle flyers from Full Fat Designs. One side shows all the graphic design services from logo design to catalogue as a red wine bottle. Then the flip side lists the web design services from flash banners to html websites on a white wine bottle.
The envelope was printed with a message of having a drink with Full Fat Designs, and inside an apology that the bottle wasn't real (as it wouldn't fit in the envelope). The main aim was to try to appeal to the food and wine trade with a visual statement and show them what can be achieved in one flyer. Around 100 of these were posted out, hopefully some make it past the instant binning stage and get read by a potential new client.

Visiting Small Businesses
Today will be a spent by visiting and phoning small businesses who will hopefully require some graphic or web design. Desford in Leicestershire is my target area today as it is local to the office in Newtown Unthank. By selecting an area each day I plan to visit most areas of Leicestershire to spread the word about Full Fat Designs, and the services offered.
Phoning can get you results, but I find you can often get through to the wrong person and if you catch them during a busy spell, or while they have an important deadline to meet, your message can be missed. So armed with the recent flyers, I find visiting the places and leaving the details, followed by a phone call a week later a much better approach.
Overall I will try to maintain positive throughout the initial client building exercise as I know that its a hard struggle to get people interested in your new business, but with the design quality and services offered I'm sure people will start to hear about Full Fat Designs.

Finding the 'right' people
Advertising for ourselves has reminded me how important it is to target the right people. Sure finding 'cheap' places to advertise is easy, but what's the point if the audience of this source would never be interested in your service or product?
Over the past week we have been listing and un-listing possible advertising leads. We want to maximise our initial advertising spend so we have to get this right.
Hopefully you will see our adverts / promotional items soon... and you will be the 'right' sort of person viewing it.
